Adventures in Oxford
Today was amazing!
We started off on the bus heading to Oxford. I found out today that I won one of the photo contest's for "Most Awkward Selfie" and it was for this awesome picture!
Then we made it into the beautiful city of Oxford. We started our tour and saw so many of the different colleges that they have there. Ranging from the oldest to some of the ones in between to most recent. There is so much history in Oxford. Especially with the different literary figures, such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Lewis Carroll. Plus there were a lot of places that were used in the filming of Harry Potter. Such as the infirmary scenes from the first and second movies, and the practicing for the Yule Ball which is in the Divinity School. That was so cool to see. Then we went into Christ Church and saw the stair case that was used for the first movie when all of the first years went up the stairs to meet McGonagall. Then we got to go adventuring for a little between our time before Christ Church and we went to lunch at the Eagle and Child. This was a place that C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien would meet once a week to talk about their work and what they were writing about. They were together in a club called the Inklings and had their own little room in this pub called the Rabbit Room. I thought it was very clever.
The other cool thing about Christ Church was this was where Lewis Carroll had his inspiration for Alice in Wonderland. The dean's daughters were his inspiration as were many of the other people on the campus of Christ Church.
There was just so much history in this town I wish we had more time to explore there it was so much fun!
Until tomorrow.
